Senior Back-end Developer

A few years from now, our platform will run in buildings across the whole of Europe. How the back-end underneath it is built, is decided by you.

You'll join the market leader in AI SaaS for commercial real estate as a senior, right as we roll out to Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. Your architecture decisions won't disappear into a committee: they become the foundation the whole team builds on.

About Healthy Workers

Healthy Workers is an Amsterdam-based AI SaaS scale-up and the market leader in building optimisation for commercial real estate. Owners of commercial real estate are under real pressure to make their buildings more sustainable. Our platform helps them do that: we connect to the installations in buildings and collect data in order to make them run smarter, using less energy and giving people more comfort. We work directly with those owners. After the Netherlands, we're now rolling out in Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, with the rest of Europe next.

We are informal, lines are short, and you'll work closely with the founders every day.

What you'll do

You'll join our Product team as the senior on the back-end. You build alongside the team, and you make sure both the team and the platform are ready for the next stage of growth.

• Shape the back-end architecture and write down the decisions, so nobody has to guess a year from now why something was built this way

• Get the platform ready for Europe: scalable, fast and reliable, from API to infrastructure

• Help build AI features that control building systems more intelligently

• Work with our Data team and SkySpark (our building analytics platform) to make Healthy Workers the single source of truth for all building and customer data

• Keep production healthy and the bug backlog under control

• Coach colleagues, review code within one working day and make sure no service depends on a single person

What your week roughly looks like:

~60% building: APIs, data models, integrations and AI features

~20% maintenance, devops and infra: bugs, monitoring, CI/CD and scalability

~10% code reviews and security (pentests and ISO)

~10% stand-ups, refinement, sprint planning and retros

Our stack

Kotlin, Micronaut, MySQL, BigQuery, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI, Terraform, Google Cloud Platform and SkySpark. We plan in Linear.

Coming from Java? Perfect! Kotlin will feel familiar quickly, and with your JVM experience you'll be up to speed within a few weeks.

What you bring

Must-haves:

• Experienced as a back-end developer with Java or Kotlin

• You've designed APIs and data models for systems that grow, and you've made architecture choices you then had to work with

• You're used to owning production: debugging, monitoring and resolving incidents

• Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD are part of your everyday toolkit

• You make others better through constructive reviews, knowledge sharing and good documentation

• You are fluent in English and live in the Netherlands

• Please note: we can't offer visa sponsorship or relocation support.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Terraform, GitLab CI or Google Cloud Platform

• Knowledge of C#

• Experience with security and certification, such as ISO

• An interest in building, energy or sensor data
